Indian Air Force Day- Meet the Bravest Indian Women of the Indian Air Force

Indian Air Force officially started its journey on October 8, 1932. Since then, this day has been celebrated every year on this day to give honour to the selfless efforts and brave acts of the Indian jawans and the entire air force team during the battles.

Not only men, but women have been also playing major roles in the IAF for centuries and they are the true inspiration for next generation. On this Indian Air Force Day, let’s remember them with honour.

1. Gunjan Saxena

Gunjan Saxena was the first ever IAF female aviator to fly in the combat zone during the Kargil War. This fearless female pilot rescued over 900 wounded soldiers during the war.

2. Minty Agarwal

Squadron leader Minty Agarwal is the first woman in IAF to receive the Yudh Seva medal for her excellent efforts as a flight controller during the Balakot aerial combat between India and Pakistan.

3. Avani Chaturvedi

Avani Chaturvedi is a name that marks the milestone of the Indian Air Force's work towards gender equality. She is one of the first female combat pilots in IAF who completed her solo flight in a fighter jet.

4. Hina Jaiswal

Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal made a new revolution in the history of Indian Air Force and defeated the gender inequality by becoming the first-ever female flight engineer in 2019.

5. Shaliza Dhami

Shaliza Dhami is the first woman air wing commander to give command in the frontline combat unit.

6. Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay

Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay is an expert flight surgeon in Indian Air Force. She is the first female to promoted to the Air Marshal rank who also received Padma Shri award for her best efforts.

7. Vijaylakshmi Ramanan

She is the first-ever Indian Air Force officer who worked as a surgeon in IAF and gave the best medical care during wars. She will always be remembered for being so hardworking and talented.
