World Cotton Day - Learn the Significance of Cotton in Our Daily Life

World cotton day is celebrated globally every year on October 7 to highlight the massive role of cotton in our global economy and our daily lives.

History of World Cotton Day

The four famous cotton producers in sub-Saharan Africa– Benin, Chad, Mali and Burkina Faso took the initiative first in 2019 to celebrate the World Cotton Day to spread awareness about cotton’s importance. Later, in 2021, United Nations General Assembly declared October 7 as World Cotton Day. Let us tell you the significant roles that cotton has been playing for years.

1. Textile Industry

Since its first production, Cotton has been a must-have part of the textile industry. Soft cotton fibre is widely used to make every type of clothing, from innerwear, socks, shirts, t-shirts, to sarees, salwar Kurtis and may more.

6. Food and Agricultural Industry

As cotton is an important food and fibre crop, it is often used as a healthy food for cattle, and horses. Farmers make money by selling cotton in the market.

7. Other Uses

Cotton has several uses in our daily lives such as to make book binding, paper, and cottonseed oil is used to make cosmetics, soaps etc.
